Nip Drivers- Oh Blessed Freakshow

Here is another long forgotten, and often overlooked, band from California. It is the Nipdrivers, and the record is 'Oh Blessed Freakshow'. Not a lot of people know about, or care about this band, but this record has always been one of my favorites, so I figure it would be good to share some more good music.
The Nip Drivers were from Torrance California. The music has that classic early 80's CA punk hardcore sound, but there are parts that are strange and dip in and out of various other styles, kind of like how the Feederz, or even The Vandals, did. In fact, they cover 'Have You Ever Been Mellow', which the Feederz also covered. There are some straight forward songs here and then some slower ones and they are all very powerful. The vocals are unique and makes the music stand apart from some of the more generic bands of the time.
If anyone has the 'Destroy Whitey' record from the Nip Drivers, please post it or tell me where I can get it. I have never heard that one and I would love to.

Funeral- Waiting For The Bomb Blast 7" ep + s/t 12" ep

Here are two personal favorites of mine. They are also long forgotten punk records with some amazing music on them!
Funeral came from Long Beach California. They were around in the early 80s, and both of these records were released in 1981. They had a straight forward sound on the first ep, the standout tracking being the powerful title track. Then on the s/t 12", they come into an amazing sound of their own. All the great elements of the first ep are still there, but they expand upon them and it really pays off. It is classic SoCal punk, but it has a sound of its own, backs with some of the greatest hooks and memorable choruses. 'Will To Live' starts with a great bouncy guitar line, it reminds me of being on the beach and not caring about anything except having fun. Later on, there is a song called 'Darkness On Your Doorstep', which is a lot slower and is really doomy sounding, but they totally pull it off without sounding cheesy. The first ep is great, but the 12" is all the greatness of that plus more, and I feel like I'm failing at describing this band.
Members of Funeral were in or went on to be in many other great bands, such a the Rik L Rik band, and made a lot more great music.

ABombANation- Demo 1988

Here is another request fill! It is the ABombANation demo from 1988.
ABombANation formed in 1987 and played a lot of shows and then released this demo in 1988. The music is classic late 80's sounding New York Hardcore, but there is also an overwhelming sense a melody to a lot of the songs. I think the melodic overtones set them a part from a lot of other bands of the time. It wouldn't be off to say they had something in common with a band like Token Entry. The vocals are very clear and the clarity of the vocals really adds to the power of the music.
Three songs from this demo were also on the 'New Breed' comp. Later on there was an LP planned but that never materialized. If anyone has those tracks, please share them with me! There are also WNYU and WFMU sets out there and I would like to hear those, so if you have them, let me know!

Our Gang- Demo + Uprising '88 Demo + Unreleased 7" + WNYU + Lew's CDR

Here is another request fill! It is everything I have from Our Gang! Our Gang was a hardcore band from New York City in the late 80's. They fit in well with the NYHC scene of the time, but they also had their own unique style, which was cool and kept them from becoming a generic clone band. They definately played a bit faster than some bands of the time, kind of like Citizens Arrest, who they were friends with.
There are two demos here. One is just the "Demo' and the other is the "Uprising '88' demo. The 'Uprising '88' demo has all the songs that are on the "Demo" plus some extras. If I had to pick a favorite Out Gang release, it would be the 'Uprising '88' demo, as I think is the best representation of their sound.
I also included their set from when they played on WNYU. The sound is good and is another cool live overview of their material.
Next is the unreleased 7". This sounds different than the previous stuff, adding a lot of melody and some singing, instead of always yelling. There are a couple good songs on this, and it's worth hearing, but again, it's way different from their other stuff. Some of the songs are pretty catchy.
Finally, I included "Lew's CDR', which is just that, a CDR that Lew from the band made. I think it is mostly a discography of everything they did, but I included it anyway, in case I was missing versions of songs that are on other things.
Our Gang also had songs on the New Breed Comp, but those songs were included on Lew's CDR, so I didn't upload them separately.
Our Gang was pretty cool, had a lot of great songs and I hope you enjoy the music!

Red Rockers- Condition Red LP + Comp Song

Here is the fantastic Red Rockers 'Condition Red' LP. I also included their song from the Rodney On The ROQ Volume Two Comp. The song is on the LP, as well, but it is a different recording.
Red Rockers were a punk band from the early 80's. They were from San Francisco. They had a wonderful melodic sound, but it was different than the other melodic punk bands of the time. The music has a lot in common with The Clash or Stiff Little Fingers. In fact, I have often seen then referred to as a US version of The Clash. Either way, the music here is undeniably amazing. Every song is a hit and the crown jewel of this record is the song 'Can You Hear. The song is endlessly memorable with the best guitar and vocal hooks. There are the best 'woah' vocal parts combined with the lines of the chorus. This song will be stuck in your head for days, which is not a bad thing. The song 'Live Or Die' is another highlight of the record too. Unfortunately, after this LP, the band attempted to turn into a radio rock band, and semi succeeded with one radio hit, but the resulting records were really weak compared to the strength of this material. So check this record out and enjoy!

MDC- Live In Los Angeles

Here is a live set from MDC! The show is in Los Angeles in the early 80's. That is about all the information that I have about it though. If you know anything, let me know. The sound quality here is great. You can hear all the instruments and the vocals and some crowd interaction between songs. At the beginning you can hear Dave, ranting on and on about some stage manager who kept bothering him. It's pretty funny. MDC was way more 'serious', than a lot of other bands of the time, especially with the in between song talking. It's probably the exact opposite of that Vandals radio set that I posted a while back. Either way, MDC was still great and I think this set is great.
MDC were from Texas but moved to California later on. The music was great, fast hardcore. They didn't really have a lot of the pop or upbeat elements that a lot of bands did at that time, but the songs were still great and always memorable. 'I Remember' is one of my all time favorite songs. It is included in this live set. Enjoy!
Sorry I didn't add a lot of pictures for this. I wanted to get this posted real quick before I leave for the day. I have more MDC, so I will post a lot of pictures with the next post of MDC stuff.
